Weekend's Games To Be Broadcasted On Facebook Live

2016-12-02

Broadcast is first of its kind for GLHL, UP-based teams

The Marquette Mutineers will bring along a broadcast crew for this weekend's games road games through Facebook Live.

"This is something we felt was necessary for the fan base in Marquette," General Manager Brice Burge said. "Not only are these good matchups at the top of the GLHL, but something that follows our mission of providing new ways to experience hockey in our community."

The games will be available for any fans of the Marquette Mutineers's Facebook page, with games starting at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Wooden Nickel will also have the game available on their projection screen.

This will be the first time a game is streamed on Facebook Live in its entirety in Great Lakes Hockey League history. It is also the first time that a Marquette-based team attempts such a broadcast. Some teams like Eagle River have put clips of games on Facebook Live and other streaming social media platforms, but a full broadcast with announcer has not been attempted in the past.

A number of sponsors have paired up with the Mutineers to make this broadcast possible including Wattsson & Wattsson, Marquette Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries of Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Enright Construction, Big Boy, Carlson Media and La Dolce Video and Design.

This weekend's broadcast is on a trial basis as the feasibility of broadcasting is an issue for the young franchise.

"These places we know can handle the internet stream needed to make this work and have good camera angles, so it was a good fit and a good time to try a broadcast," Burge said. "However, we are still a new entity both legally and as a team. It is important to make sure that we can handle all aspects moving forward and we hope that we can do this at least one more time this season."

Marquette's opponents this week are the West Bend Bombers on Friday and the Fond du Lac Bears on Saturday. Both teams are tied for second place with 3-1 records.
