The Marquette Mutineers rallied big on both nights on their road series to sweep the Calumet Wolverines 6-4 on Friday, Jan. 27 and 6-5 on Saturday, Jan. 28.

"Calumet is one of the most physical teams in the league," said Marquette Mutineers captain Joey Enright. "It took us a couple periods in the first game to adjust to the physicality, but we hung around long enough to wear them down and out skate them."

On Friday night, the Wolverines shot out to a 4-0 lead courtesy of two goals from the former Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjacket Eric Bausano in the first period and one each from Byron Parks and Alex Van Wagner in the second. However, persistance paid off for Marquette when Dallas McLaughlin and Andrew Plomer crashed the net to get the Mutineers on the board with 3:47 remaining in the second period.

McLauglin carried that momentum into the third period, scoring with 17:28 and 14:05 left in regulation. It completed his fourth hat trick of the year.

Enright tied the game with help of defenseman Adam Szabo and forward Ryan Sullivan, going top shelf from the back side of the Calumet goaltender. Craig Hartz added in the game winner just moments later, courtesy of McLaughlin and Enright. McLaughlin added his fourth goal as an empty netter.

On Saturday, both teams stepped up their physicality in a penalty-filled matchup. Sullivan drew blood first on the power play but the Wolverines scored four goals in the last 6:12 of the first to take a commanding 4-1 lead.

Once again the Mutineers rallied, as forwards John Aho, Plomer and McLaughlin twice scored in the second period to take a 5-4 lead into the third period. Defenseman Doug Quayle scored just his second goal of the year for the eventual game winner as Marquette won 6-5.

"Winning games from behind is a huge morale boost," Enright said. "It was four big points against a much bigger, stronger team."

Marquette improves to 9-7 on the season as Calumet falls to 7-10. The Mutineers will be back at Lakeview Arena this Saturday, Feb. 4 as they take on the Depere Deacons. Puck drops at 8 p.m..
