Marquette Back On The Road In De Pere

2017-02-11

Marquette looks to stay hot against the Deacons

The Marquette Mutineers (10-7) are on the road this weekend to face the De Pere Deacons (3-12-1) 9 p.m., Saturday Feb, 11 at the De Pere Ice Center in De Pere, Wisconsin.

ALL TIME SERIES

The Mutineers will be heading to De Pere for the first time all season. The Deacons and the Mutineers have only met one time prior to this game and Marquette showed to be superior, winning 8-3.

LAST TIME OUT

In the Mutineers’ last time on the ice, they showed to be dominant in all aspects of the game. Beating the De Pere Deacons at Hockeyville’s Lakeview arena last Saturday, Feb. 4, with a score of 8-3. The Mutineers hard-fought effort to crash the net and keep the puck in the offensive zone paid off. Marquette’s offense seemed to be clicking with seven different players scoring goals, including two goals paired with two assists from the Great Lakes Hockey League’s leading scorer Dallas McLaughlin, giving him another four points for the game.

SPARKING THE OFFENSE

The Mutineers have shown to be a dominant team on the offensive side of the ice all year long. Marquette is now in third place in the league after the win against the Deacons and have become the first team to reach 100 goals this season. Having two of the top scorers in the league does help the Mutineers in the goal department, but the determination from each player to cycle the puck and get the best shot shows that this team is ready for the playoffs.

PENALTY KILL IS THE KEY

During the tail end of the season, Marquette looks to stay out of the penalty box. The Mutineers tallied for a total of eighteen penalty minutes in their last game with the Deacons and gave up two power play goals. This is starting to be a trend with the Mutineers as their penalty minutes have increased during their three game win streak. After last game, players said they were focusing on maintaining possession during the power play but also getting back to their disciplined style of hockey.

WHO WILL PLAY FOR DE PERE?

The Deacons were without two of their big standouts in Marquette last Saturday team leading scorer Nic Belonger and Pete Fylling. Both played in their game last night at Monroe. The Blues won that game 9-2. Calvin Steinhoff will also be back in the lineup after serving his one-game suspension he received for fighting against the Mutineers. All three of these players could be wild cards in tonight’s matchup.
