Marquette loses a tough road game

BOX SCORE

A short bench on the road was too much to overcome for the Mutineers, as they're three-game win streak came to an end at the hands of the De Pere Deacons 6-1 last Saturday, Feb. 11.

"Travelling with 12 guys isn't easy," said Mutineers Captain Joey Enright. "They just wore us out with the ability to take short shifts."

Multiple members of the Mutineers roster were stuck in Marquette for the game, fulfilling work conflicts and National Guard duty. It forced some interesting line combinations and forced Andy Evans to move from forward to defenseman.

De Pere's goals came in pairs as Pete Fylling, Nic Belonger and Joe Faulhaber scored two goals each throughout the game. Two Deacons with Marquette ties had assists in the game former Redman Chris Finn had two helpers while former Electrician Calvin Steinhoff had one.

Marquette's lone goal came in the first period with just over a minute remaining in the frame. Enright positioned himself on the back door as Deacon goalkeeper Zach Turney wasn't able to handle the rebound.

"There was a scrum in front of the net after Dal(las McLaughlin) rushed the puck in toward the net," Enright said. "Crashing on the rebounds is something we are working on. We need to be hungrier around both nets."

The Mutineers outshot the Deacons 42-41 in the game, but De Pere rallied around their netminder. It was the best statistical night of the season for Turney as he had 41 saves for a .976 save percentage.

With the loss, Marquette falls to 10-8 and slip to fourth place in the GLHL standings. De Pere stays in last place because of their Friday night loss at the Monroe Blues.

Marquette hits the road for their last road game in Wisconsin of the regular season as they faceoff against the Fox Cities Ice Dogs (7-8) at the Appleton Ice Arena. Marquette won their only previous meeting 8-3 in Lakeview Arena.
