Marquette fizzles after strong first period

The Calumet Wolverines proved to be to much to handle for the Mutineers scoring eight goals before the thrid period and winning with a final score of 13-3 Friday, Feb. 23 at Lakeview Arena.
Marquette started off the game strong with Dallas McLaughlin scoring in the opening two minutes of the game with assists from Joey Enright and Adam Szabo. Calumet's Tyler Loukus answered three mintues later to tie the game up 1-1. The first period ended with a score of 2-2 and Marquette taking 21 shots on the net but that was as close as the game got for the Mutineers.
There were 17 total penalties tallied up in the game including two, five-minute majors handed out to both Levi Jezek of the Mutineers and Tyler Froberg of the Wolverines half-way through the second period for fighting. Both players were ejected from the game and will also have to serve a one-game suspension.
Calumet scored six unanswered goals in the second period and forced the Mutineers to make a goalie change heading into the third period. Mike Madosh stopped 22 shots out of the 29 he faced in the two periods he was in net. Brandon Knopp took over at the begining of the thrid period and stopped eight out of the 12 shots on goal.
Although there were signs of light in the third with some solid offensive attacks and hard defensive play but Marquette could not recover from the large hole they dug themselves.
The Mutineers will host the Wolverines again at Lakeview Arena, Saturday, Feb. 25, @ 8pm. It will be the final time the two teams faceoff against each other this season.
