Mutineers Skate With Negaunee Mites To Kick Off Hockey Week Across America

2017-02-21

Informal event kicks off Hockey Weekend Across America

On Monday, Feb. 20, available members of the Marquette Mutineers joined the Iron Range Hockey Association's Mite team for an evening practice skate.

Players ran drills and helped out with the practice after the Mite coaches and Mutineers captains coordinated on the planning of the event.

For both sides, the event was a success.

"I think the kids had a lot of fun which was the most important but I know we had a blast ourselves," defenseman Ben Hughes said. "Hanging out with the kids was a great reminder why we still play hockey. No matter what age you achieve, once you step on the ice, we're all there to have a good time."

It was a great start to the Hockey Week Across America, a national focus on hockey created by USA Hockey. Other Mutineers events this week includes the first Mutineers Dine-Cast on Thursday, rooting on the Redmen at Senior Night tonight at Lakeview Arena and two games against the Calumet Wolverines this Friday and Saturday.
